The 2013-2014 school year is here!

That means it's time for Lake Forest Students to begin their regular orientation rotation into the Media Center.

This year, the students will be introduced to a new character in the library. Russell the Sarcastic Crow. Russell can be very insulting and not much is off limits, but Crows are very smart and he will be used to teach some valuable lessons in the library.

Lesson number one. Don't be so sarcastic.

Chess Sets are Here!

We've got three new chess sets all set up and ready to use in our media center. This is another reason to earn your 15 AR points to get your pass into WordNerds.

We have some new chess books coming for those who want to learn more about the game and for those who want to learn HOW to play the game. Let's hope the popularity grows into a full fledged Chess Club at Lake Forest Middle School.

If any parent wants to donate or help sponsor us getting more chess sets and chess clocks, please have them contact Mr. Stone.

Book Review--DIVERGENT

OK, guys. This is a cool book. If you liked the Hunger Games, you're going to like Divergent by Veronica Roth.

So, what's the story? It's about Beatrice Prior (Tris) and she's ever bit as tough as Katniss.

This is a dystopian novel about a future society where everyone is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.
Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.
The sequel to this book is called INSURGENT, and is available in the Lake Forest Media Center.

Review of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever

Greg Heffley is causing more trouble. School properly has been damaged, and Greg is the prime suspect. But, this time, he's actually innocent!

The authorities are closing in, but when a surprise blizzard hits, the Heffley family is trapped indoors. Greg knows that when the snow melts he’s going to have to face the music, but could any punishment be worse than being stuck inside with your family for the holidays?

This is new to our library, so check it out.

Four Stars!
